Background

Born in West Virginia and raised across Appalachia, Matt Spurlock learned early the values of hard work, neighborly support, and speaking up for what matters. Since relocating to Southern Oregon in 2010, he has built his life around community involvement, family, and civic engagement.

Matt is a father of two and a local leader who believes strong communities are built through collaboration and respect. He currently serves as a leader with Rogue Indivisible, where he works with residents to advocate for practical solutions, civic participation, and policies that strengthen opportunity and fairness for all.

Growing up, Matt was deeply involved in church life and spent many years in music ministry, experiences that shaped his commitment to service, listening, and bringing people together across different perspectives. Those early foundations continue to influence his approach to leadership today: thoughtful, community-minded, and grounded in shared values.

Matt is running for Position 2 Commissioner in Josephine County because he believes local government works best when it stays connected to the people it serves. He is committed to transparent decision-making, open dialogue, and policies that reflect the real needs of working families, small businesses, and rural residents.
